Another WiPM Scholarship Winner!
Dear Women in Project Management members,
We are delighted to bring you good news. We awarded our First Half 2021 Academic Scholarship to WiPM member Nikisha Willis from Duluth, Georgia. Her scholarship application showcased a woman pursuing her dream and modeling grit and determination to the younger workforce. We had the pleasure of speaking with her and will post on the WiPM LinkedIn page.
Here’s a special shout out to all our WiPM readers. Your membership made Nakisha’s scholarship possible. Thank you for sending one of our own into our industry better equipped and ready to make a difference for those who follow. Read Nakisha’s submission:
“Back in the Y2k era, I asked software developers at the time and no one could lead me in the direction that I needed to go to work on computers. I worked my way up by starting with a small software company and helped with the implementation of auto-posting, automated claims billing, and EMR/EHR Electronic medical records. I eventually landed a role at Apple in their mobile technology department for five and a half years. I trained international customers as well as the deaf and blind to successfully use their technology.
It is an honor to be chosen for the Woman in Project Management (WiPM) Scholarship. I am currently in the manufacturing sector. I enjoy working as a project manager, but I lack the professional training to go with my work experience. I am a single mom with two daughters who have always seen me work hard to achieve my education. I want my daughters to see me accomplish my dream of becoming a certified Project Manager (PMP). Working in the role of a project manager without training is a challenge and I can only imagine the results of receiving my PMP and how it will positively impact my life and my daughter’s lives. I will learn new techniques, become more confident in my role, and advance my career.
I am an active member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and I plan on using the scholarship for training and PMP certification. I want to send a special thank you to Women in Project Management (WiPM) for making this scholarship possible to help me achieve my dream. It is wonderful to have women who look for opportunities to help other women. Please keep up the great work and I plan to pay it forward in the future.”
WiPM believes that the foundation for the scholarships is based on how the applicant best utilizes the education component. As a WiPM member, you or a member of your immediate household are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Our membership focuses on diversity and inclusion for our male and female members. If you have a friend or family member who wants to join, we have special rates for students and military personnel. Your membership and annual renewals fund these scholarships as WiPM is still boot strapped by the founding board.
